How to Create a Backup in cPanel

📁 Method 1: Manual Backup (Files + Database)

🔸 A. Backup Website Files using File Manager

Log in to your cPanel account.
Open File Manager (under the Files section).
Navigate to the public_html folder (or your site’s root directory).
Select all files and folders (use the Select All option).
Click Compress and choose Zip Archive.
Name the file (e.g., backup-july2025.zip) and click Compress Files.
Once done, right-click the zip file and choose Download.

🔸 B. Backup Database using phpMyAdmin

Return to the cPanel Home.
Open phpMyAdmin under the Databases section.
Select your website’s database from the left sidebar.
Click on the Export tab.
Choose Quick export method and SQL format.
Click Go to download the .sql file to your computer.

      You Now Have:
      A .zip file of your website files
A .sql file of your database

    

🧰 Method 2: Full Backup via cPanel Backup Tool

Go to the cPanel Home.
Open the Backup or Backup Wizard tool.
Click on Download a Full Account Backup.
Select Home Directory as the backup destination.
Enter your email address to receive a notification when the backup is ready.
Click Generate Backup.
After completion, download the backup file from the same page under "Available Backups".

Note: This backup includes files, databases, email accounts, DNS settings, and other configurations.

Backup File: A single .tar.gz file containing your entire hosting account.

♻️ How to Restore

Manual Backup: Upload the .zip and extract files via File Manager. Import the .sql via phpMyAdmin and update config files (like wp-config.php).
Full cPanel Backup: Ask your hosting provider to restore the .tar.gz file, or do it yourself using WHM if you have root access.
